Hi Sophie,
I have been an avid fan of yours since the beginning. You are my ultimate diva! I even perform a lot of your songs in drag :-) You have got to be the most pure and beautiful artist ever. Your lyrics can change my mood in an instant. If I weren't such a flame I'd wanna marry you :-) Just wondering, I heard rumor of a remix album coming out soon and never have heard anything else about it? Is it really in the works? If not would you consider it? By the way I LOVE the song you wrote for Sarah Brightman! I bought the album just for that fact. Please come see us in Atlanta soon! We love you and I have never had the chance to see you perform live. Much love and light always!
Michael (aka: Raegan Simone)
PS I'd Love to see you work with Concrete Blonde or Cyndi Lauper some day!
|
| A |
Dear Michael Reagan Simone, what a great letter you wrote! I've done two remixes on the new album of new songs - one called "Soul Lover" I'm dying for you to hear. I actually would like you to point me in the direction of a remixer, my manager wants my vocals to go to the right D.J. and we don't know that world as much as we'd like. Of course we know the DJ's that are famous, but who is undiscovered, up and coming? Give us a clue by contacting Gigi at the website via Janice. The two songs we've done are by an unknown fabulously creative guy. I dance in the morning to remixes all the time, my dogs go wild and scratch the wood floors, what a party when I'm supposed to be exercising!
I want to see you in drag! Divine! Did you see the article in the Daily News (NYC) Nov 8, 2003 on the Harvey Milk High School. I love those kids, the police should arrest the johns, not the students.
Anyway, be Brave!

| Q |
Hi Sophie,
Great chance to actually ask you a question this way!
Unfortunately I've never been able to catch live on stage, but I've seen
some clips and heard some songs, is there ever a chance you will release a
live album, that would be awesome, even if it was in a small scale just for
the fans who would be able to buy it through your Internet site, perhaps
that is a good idea because of the industry!
And please, please, please I hope I can catch you on the next tour, would
you be so kind to visit Amsterdam, Netherlands??? I still haven't forgiven
myself for skipping your concert in the Paradiso, round your 2nd album
(because of some stupid Math midterm!).
Anyway keep on going, keep on singing, performing & fighting for woman
rights.
Love from Amsterdam,
Ernst
|
| A |
Hi Ernst, please keep in touch with the website. I'll be in Germany
with this tour in January, then
may go to Amsterdam. Otherwise, for sure I'll tour Europe
for "Wilderness". |
| |
| Q |
Hi Sophie, The first time I visited your site there was a photo of you on the ground with a read dachshund giving you a kiss. It brought a tear to my eye. I have an older red dachshund named "BJ". He was abandoned at the clinic I work at (he was in a coma - hit by a car). Anyway I wondered if yours was still waddling around like they do and what his/her name is. Mine has epilepsy from the accident, so I know he won't live 'til he's 17. Well, maybe if I wish REAL hard. Needles to say, I love the way you bare your soul in the music you conjure.
Peace & Love, Heidi |
| A |
Dear Heidi, My dachshund is named Yahoo, "Hoobie" I called her. She
died over a year ago and everytime
I sing "Lose Your Way" I sing it to her. She was and remains my first
dachshund Love. I miss her so
much, I was privileged in that I took her to the park on the last day
of her life and watched her
saying goodbye to all her surroundings, we really connected.
The doctor said she'd live but I knew, she knew, it was the most
touching walk I've ever had. She was
peaceful, quietly letting go and allowing me to accompany her and
console her.
Around that same time my stray cat "Chimney" died in my arms. I feel
so close to them even now.
I hope B.J. lives until 17. |

| Q |
Hi Sophie,
If you remember us at all, Sheryle and Jodi, we talked with you after the Portland Pride concert. We drove up from Seattle, Washington just to see you play.
My question: Will you ever be performing in Seattle or nearby.
I think your music is amazing. The last time I saw you perform was 9 years ago in
Milwaukee, Wisconsin at the University. This is where I truly fell in love with
your words, your sound and your style of music. It was different then anything
I had ever listened to. Since then I have promoted you to all my friends
and co-workers. I have also raved about your performances but you have never played in our area so that they could see for themselves.
I realize you are struggling to succeed away from the record companies
and probably you are working with a limited budget. But if you could make
it our way that would be cool.
We really enjoyed your show in Portland. Hope all is going well with you
and your new album.
P.S. If I am allowed 2 questions. Do you still smoke a pipe?
Sincerely,
Jodi & Sheryle |
| A |
Dear Jodie & Sheryle,
I do smoke a pipe with shaman's blend of Seminole black herbs. Also,
I've played Seattle a lot over
the years, and I'll definitely tour there for Wilderness in 2004.
Thank you for your observations and
support.
See you there, Sophie. |

| Q |
hi sophie!
this is bob from the 'street team' section of your website:
I have a couple of questions that I'd like to ask you, but first I just wanted to tell you how grateful I am to you for sharing your music and your life with your fans. when I got the chance to meet you at the 2001 northalsted street market days in Chicago, I met a person who is as honest and real as her music is. and now you're further strengthening the bond between yourself and your fans with this opportunity to ask you questions. so here goes...
1. did you use a metal slinky in the recording of 'mmm my best friend?' it sounds like the metal coil sound is mixed among the percussion of the song.
2. what inspired you to record a Spanish version of 'lose your way?' as a high school Spanish teacher, I was just curious as to what inspired you and how you translated it. I really enjoy the version.
so much for keeping it short, but again, I want to thank you for sharing your talent with us.
eagerly awaiting your next release,
bob
|
| A |
1. Yes Bob, we used a slinky. Great Earballs!
2. You're very sweet to enjoy my poor Spanish, the interpreter who
helped me translate it said she
was giving me "Castillian" Spanish, is this correct? I did it in
Spanish because I had one day left of
prepaid recording studio time with Kevin Killen and I decided to try
something different because we'd
finished the album. If I were going to be released in Spain I'd work
harder and do it with the new
album, but I'll see where that goes. I would always appreciate a good
translation though. So I'll
remember you for the next single when we to go Europe.
Thank you so much, Sophie |
| |
| Q |
Sophie,
I am sure the first songs I heard by you were "Damn I
Wish I Was Your Lover" and "As I Lay Me Down" but, the
first one I heard, knowing it was by you, was "I Need
Nothing Else" and it instantly hit me deep. That,
along with "Bare The Weight Of Me" are my favorite
songs of all time and you have inspired me.
Anyway, to the question. I love to sing and I
actually think I am pretty good at it. However, at a
young age, I was told by my singing teacher to "stick
to expressing yourself through instruments." (I play
the flute) This hit me hard and since that day I have
not sung in front of anyone but my own kids. I want
to be able to sing in front of others and perhaps
allow my talent to grow to where I can use it to bring
enjoyment and inspiration to others. Do you have any
advice for me on how to get over this fear of singing
in front of others?
Ruth |
| A |
Dear Ruth,
My advice is in the form of a short story; my long term
boyfriend told me when I was
eighteen that I had a horrible voice and couldn't write songs. Was he
right?
Trust yourself. He was also my teacher and said I should stick to
vibraphone and percussion.
Best, Sophie |

| Q |
Dear Sophie,
Thank you so much for taking the time to answer these questions, we truly appreciated :-)
I can't wait until you can make it to the UK, please come !!!!
"Listen" is my favourite song of yours, is there any story behind that song, when did you write it?
Also, what was the last record you bought?
Thanks !
Isabel xxx
London
|
| A |
Dear Isabel,
The story behind "Listen" isn't short, but I loved when that song came
out, just before the first
album was recorded.
The last record I bought was Robert Shaw "Master of the First Art".
See You Soon |

| Q |
SOPHIE:
IT IS A THRILL TO BE ABLE TO WRITE TO YOU!! MY QUESTION IS: ARE YOU AT A PLACE IN YOUR LIFE WHERE YOU ARE AT PEACE AND HAVE YOU FOUND CONTENTMENT?
TIMBRE WAS SO BEAUTIFULLY WRITTEN AND I FELT A BREATHTAKING DIFFERENCE ...LOVE, HAPPINESS, FREEDOM, WHEREAS TONGUES REACHED INTO ONE'S SOUL AND REFUSED TO LET GO....RINGING OUT IN PAIN.
YOUR MUSIC HAS TRACED MY PATH IN THIS WORLD, AND AS I GAINED THE THINGS THAT I HAD ALWAYS HOPED FOR, YOUR MUSIC SEEMED TO FOLLOW...PERFECTLY ECHOING MY FEELINGS AND LONGINGS. I HOPE THAT YOU HAVE REACHED A SERENDIPITOUS PLACE IN THIS UNIVERSE AS WELL.
HUNTER AND GATHERER,
KELLY |
| A |
Dear Kelly Hunter Gatherer,
I am not at a place of contentment, but I am very deeply appreciative
of my life and the improvisation
of interacting with humanity. I want something of myself that is a
great struggle to obtain, I will
probably forget what it was once I've surpassed the longing. I am,
however having a good time and
being very productive and somewhat level headed. |
| |
| Q |
Dear Sophie:
My name is Melissa Baker, I live in Cleveland, Ohio and saw your show at this year's Pridefest on June 21. This was the first time I saw your live performance and I was mesmerized, to say you are incredibly talented is an understatement. More important than that, you have an essence of spirituality and kindness that would be obvious to anyone who has the chance to talk with you. I work with children & teenagers of all forms of abuse and with the older kids, I use much of your music as part of their healing process.
my question is this:
Will you be coming back to Cleveland when you tour & will *we* your fans be able to purchase tickets here on the website before tickets are released to the general public? After you get the record deal that is best for you, may I suggest the possibility of a "live " CD?
Thank you for your music and for taking the time to read and possibly answer these questions.
Mel
|
| A |
Deal Mel,
wWhat a great idea of having the tickets on sale on the
website! We'll investigate that.
Also, yes I so want to do a live CD. I've been approached by two
companies to do one, but we need to
focus on Wilderness at the moment. There is indeed a live track on the
new LP, track #12, can't wait to
share it with you.
See you in Cleveland |
| |
| Q |
Sophie.
I have been a long time fan, all the back when Tongues & Tails was 1st released. I've always wanted the chance to see you live in concert. What are the chances of your tour crossing the Midwest into central IL, south of Chicago?
Thanks! Anxiously awaiting the new album...
Jim
|
| A |
Dear Jim, I'm surprised at my obscurity to someone who wants to see me
live. I've been in the area of
Chicago a lot and also IL. Maybe, I hope, for my next
album "Wilderness" that you'll see it advertised
or check the website. Can't wait to meet you after a show somewhere! |
| |
| Q |
Sophie-
What an enchanting opportunity this is to be able to converse (if only briefly) with you.
I have loyally followed your musical career since Tongues and Tails. I want to take this brief moment to thank you. Thank you for being true to yourself. For being so brave and not conforming to the musical industries ideals and demands. Your closest followers adore, love and respect you so much for who you are and the way you represent yourself musically. Your uniqueness and individuality has touched the very heart and soul of thousands.
My question is this- actually if it's not too much trouble for you I have two: First, who is holding up the release of your latest cd? Is it a similar situation to the problems you had with Timbre? Can your fans help?? If so how?
Secondly, I know you are a strong advocate for abused animals. My aunt is opening up a animal rescue facility in Palm Desert. She has been doing this out of her home for 15 years and finally has the opportunity to expand her passion into a ranch. (Topaz Ranch and Rescue) It is also an exclusive boarding facility for pet owners. Once it's open
and running would you consider visiting? It would be an excellent promotional opportunity for her. If so how can we contact you.
Thank you Sophie!!! I could listen to you forever!
Jayme- Chelan WA.
|
| A |
Dear Jayme, thank you for your support. The skinny on "Wilderness" is
this; what deal is the best
right now. My manager and I have been in discussions with several
companies, and we are very concerned
that once the LP is released, the support will continue and I have the
ability to keep promoting and
working the LP regardless of changes in the industry. There are a lot
of start-ups and offshoots and
mergers and bankruptcies etc. The music industry is like the gold rush
era of the wild west. There are
a lot of fools rushing around to capitalize on the next successful way
to sell records, and a few
people getting lucky, and some people really having "best laid plans"
who end up quite "astray". So,
we are excited, cautious and considering the right way for the record.
The landscape changes literally
every day. When we finalize the deal parameters Ill let you all know and
then I will definitely appreciate
your help.
About Topaz Ranch and Rescue, that is an awesome achievement and
sacred life path. I would love you to
simply give Janice the info and she'll remind me when we're touring in
that area. We'd love to visit.
Thanks so much,
Sophie |

| Q |
After buying Sarah Brightmans’ cd, I was surprised to discover your name in the liner notes for the lyrics of Free. How was working with Sarah? I’ve a million questions, but I’ll keep it short.
Thank you,
Tom
|
| A |
Sarah Brightman is "La Divina" to me. She is so smart, so articulate,
so polite, so professional and
to be honest, she used very few of my lyrics, although I gave her three
or four full versions of the
song. She wrote them mainly herself which I encouraged her to do
because she's in tune with exactly
what she wants to say. Although, she's very humble about it. I could
talk about her attributes
forever. I wish I could open for her. Will you email her website and
ask if I can open for her!!!
Take Care Tom!

Hello Sophie,
Do you any interest in Ancient Egypt?
Have a great day,
Troy
|
| A |
Dear Troy,
I have a vast interest in Ancient Egypt, are you a scholar?
The closest I've been to
Egypt, though, is vicariously through "National Geographic" and
various books. If I ever change my job
I'd like to be an archeologist's assistant and learn by tactile
experience about the world of our
cosmically connected ancestors!

| Q |
Hello Sophie,
First off I just love your music I have all your CDs. Have you seen
the movie a beautiful mind with about the math wizard? I think it was
great but think the W.T.O. missed the point and is misusing his
theory, nature needs to be protected over fishing and the cutting down
of the rain forest and on and on just shouldn't happen. Many people see
you as a voice for them now or some how a channel to voice their
thoughts know it can be heavy at times being a leader and all. If you
feel overwhelmed the very of last ditch efforts down to your very last
dime you can always tracked me {E-Mail} and hang out at our place till
you can regroup for another go at it any time and if you don't have a
way to get here my girl friend Hope and I will wire you a bus ticket.
Honestly speaking most people that I know and talk with about you and
what you are trying to do we all feel the same way many across this
nation would say the same. Sophie B strong and God Bless.

Dear Jamie,
We are bonded in our passion to heal and protect this earth and her creatures. Do you think electric vehicles are totally positive? I was trying to get one to investigate and then got side tracked by touring and the album and basically I rarely drive anywhere. But I can see one around my neighborhood and it is so quiet, "EV" it's called. I ask because I've heard positive and negative, and I haven't had time to research enough. Also, I hope I can be a leader one day, or a devout follower of the voice that guides without distraction with the phrase, "How Can I
be Useful?". |

Hey,
My name is Lauren Russo, I'm 18, live in Houston Tx. And I love your music, its so amazing, I was wondering if you would ever come to Texas on tour, I leave for boot camp September 2nd for 19 weeks, and will miss listening to your cd's like crazy. Just today I was driving back from Austin and I had your cd's in. Well I hope to see you in the future sometime. Oh yea, I seem to remember something about you writing a book, how is that coming?
Peace and Love,
Lauren.
|
| A |
The book is waiting for me to get the album out so I can sit on my
porch for four months and edit it!
Thanks for asking. Boot camp? Kickass Lauren! Yes, I'll be in Texas
for Wilderness. |

Hi Sophie,
I'm a 60-year old (former small-time radio announcer) who loves your music.
I'm curious about something that I can't understand in "Now I Lay Me Down."
What is the background vocal group saying behind you? I can't understand
them.
Much love,
Gary
|
| A |
Dear Gary,
I was going to tell you what I'm singing in those background
parts but when I read how
people hear them in their own language and give them meanings I can't
ruin it by being black and
white. I have heard the most incredible interpretations of that phrase
in so many languages.
Please forgive me for withholding the exact phrase and spelling.

| Q |
I was visiting your website, for the first time, and the first words I saw were "Freedom and independence means happiness." And I was wondering were did you get that particular phrase from? Its not something that you hear everyday, and three or four years ago, I got a tattoo of the exact same phrase, 'Freedom and Independence". And it means so much to me, having freedom and independence, and when I got it, I said I wanted to have something that means something to me, and will make me happy. So it freaked me out in a good way, to see that.

people think of the same things
almost like the idea is out there and we let it in if it fuels our path. |

Hi Melissa, we'll be there with bells on, can't wait to see you. |

| Q |
Sophie,
About eleven months ago, my biological brother that I had just met for the first time a year and a half before that, passed away. While I was helping his adopted mother go through some of his things, she asked me if I would like to have his CD collection. I accepted of course, knowing that he and I had two extremely different tastes in music. You see...he was gay...and I am straight. And I had never paid much attention to it in the past, but there is something there that was as different as night and day. Not that one is better than the other, just different. So I wanted to know what he was all about and since we were both in our late thirties and never knew one another until it was almost too late. I came across your Whaler CD.
To be totally honest with you...I had never heard of you before this took place. You see I am the typical (or maybe not) straight male, country, hard rock, tough guy stuff. Well to make a long story short...I have not stopped listening to that CD since! Your voice is so incredibly beautiful, I just can not get over never hearing your music before! I have since bought all of your albums and will continue to do so as long as you keep putting them out! Please...please...please, try to get to Salt Lake City!!! I would love to see you in concert! I close my eyes while listening to you and just absolutely loose myself in your voice! I know that Utah has a pretty bogus reputation...but it really isn't that bad of a place to visit. I guess that I didn't have much else to ask you other than, would you come to SLC?! PLEASE!!!
Thank you, keep up the fantastic work! Timm L. Monson
|
| A |
I will be coming near there soon and would be honored if you come to a
show, which I'll thank your
brother for.
Take Care, Sophie |
| |
| Q |
Dear Sophie,
I always compare the outwardly directed 'choose' on Whaler with Nocturne,
which remains my hands down my most favourite and most influential of your
tracks. I owned Timbre since it was released initially and think that song
was the sleeping giant that awoke one day on a hot July evening as I walked
back to my apartment. I imagined myself running away from something
dangerous, something virulent. It was just a feeling more than anything
else, but I became filled with such anxiety yet such attraction to something
but yet such rage....but by the end of the song "laying in midnight fields,
of dreams exiled, we are strangers in the city...but we're free when we're
wild" it was a cascading feeling of Autumn and a vivid picture of leaves
being kicked up in this turbulent frenzy as I ran by. It was release, it
was rain, it was a deep exhale that took it all away. It was this
incredibly internal experience, almost of my body from a deep place that to
this day I clearly don't understand. So I guess my question is, what was
the inspiration for Nocturne and how did that song come to you? It is
incredible and a song I return to often.....Sorry to be so personal in this
message, it just all sorta came out that way.
Your music is stunning, I am looking forward to the new disc and a trip to
Bryn Mawr's Point again.
Cheers,
Bill
|
| A |
Dear Bill,
The song Nocturne, which I wrote when I was living in Hampstead in
London near the Heath, is about the
line you picked out - forbidden love, almost as if the lover were from
another lifetime and the memory
is sparked but the relationship cannot manifest for very long in this
lifetime. Its about being
helpless - hence the rage you wrote about - but powerful in the
experience of feeling and expressing
and dreaming and creativity. Its about a secret that you wish you
could live inside, but it comes and
goes, so it haunts you, and you never know if you are ultimately alone
in the possession of it. I'm
thinking that you described the song's meaning more eloquently than I
ever could.
Thank you, Sophie |
| |
| Q |
Dear Sophie, I always thought you would do a beautiful cover of Cat Stevens' song, "Father and Son". Any chance of that happening? Also, what with you beginning an acting career, any chance of you doing a movie musical, like "Chicago" or "Moulin Rouge"? Thanks! Sincerely, ForeverSophieFan, Amy Green (Pflugerville, Texas)
|
| A |
I Love "Father and Son" great suggestion. That song makes me weep
everytime I listen to it. I can't
bare it. It is the saddest song ever written, to me, anyway. |
| |
| Q |
Hi:
Your music has helped me connect emotionally with lots of the people I
have worked with who are survivors.
I am working with someone who has suffered greatly. This person
connects emotionally with animals and with little else. I want to
understand this better...any insights?
LCC
San Francisco
|
| A |
I connect with animals more than humans too. Animals are safe and
always pure. They do not head trip
us. Their intention are clear and easy to accept. I have a
tremendously hard time trusting any human
and I'm always waiting for the other shoe to fall, for the cruelty to
show itself, for the games to
begin. I want unmanipulative relationships so the child in me can
grow, develop. With the animals I
learn about relationships, communication, trust, commitment, respect,
structure, playfulness, all of it
in a safe, patient atmosphere. Very importantly - animals don't want
sex from us. There is no threat
of being used and tricked to perform sexually. I think it's needing to
develop the stunted childself
and instinctually knowing animals can provide the interaction and
protection so we can explore who we
might be.
Also, I often dream of my animals and they are me at different ages in
the dream. Sometimes I witness
what I went through by acknowledging what happens to my dog in the
dream. Sometimes I protect her and
sometimes I lose her to the molester. I'm working it all out in the
dream. Also, different animals are
different parts of ourselves. I think You learn a lot about the
survivor by observing the differences
in the relationships as a reflection of themselves |

I like when you sing in French!
In when next songs in French?
Especially never change your music!
I says to you still thank you!
And give a caress to your animals on behalf of Raphaël!

| Q |
Hello Sophie. It is wonderful to be able to talk to someone that understands and has overcome many of the obstacles I myself have had to deal with. My name is Jill and I live in Grand Rapids, MI. Even though I might just be 23 years old, I have went through a lifetime of torment. Physically, lasted only a matter of minutes, but emotionally will probably last for the rest of my life. Even though I know there are thousands of woman that have been raped or abused at some point, to each of us it will always feel as we're walking alone. Your song I Walk Alone has helped me feel again. I want to thank you for that from the bottom of my heart. December 27 will be the 3 year anniversary of my 10 week old son dying. I am telling you this because I feel that what makes my getting raped different, is all the life I had after that. I feel that that is what makes us walk alone. We all feel differently because of everything that happens. I listen to your music whenever I feel I am alone because you make me feel like I am not. I listen to your music when I feel I need to be strong because you make me feel strong. There has never been another artist as great as you in my eyes. I won't ask you yet again if I will ever be able to see you because everybody has been asking that and well, just know that I would love to. I hope and believe that even though you may feel like it at times, you will never give up. You will always have the sparkle of a child and you will always scribble when you feel like it. I hope that one day I can scribble again. It's making me cry wishing so much to be able to let loose, but I can't and I don't know why. Sometimes I want to give up so I listen to you and your story and I find the willpower to keep going. I know you may not respond to this and that's ok... just know that I love you and I dream right along with you.
Love and best wishes forever and always, Jill
P.S. I love Ireland too and I have never been there. I will always dream of going there but you should go while you get to. You never know when you'll get the chance to again!!!
|
| A |
Dear Jill,
Your letter has made me cry and you also give me something;
validation.
When you come to a show let's scribble something really quick while
I'm signing CD's. Maybe they'll be
other people who want to scribble, there's healing power in numbers.
Stay in touch through the website
and let Janice know when I'm performing near you. Stick close to
yourself.

I would like to know from Sophie B Hawkins why she never refers to the
holiday known as TSHUBAV in her songs.
Thanks,
CRAIG
|

TSHUBAV is a very special holiday that I will only speak of with an
exceedingly special friend. This
person will not play Bingo with me if I betray our deeply personal
experience of the day! |

| Q |
I am very curious about As I Lay Me Down To Sleep. It reads like an
incredibly beautiful prayer. Am I wrong? Some lines in particular jump
out at me - "I will see you when the sun comes out again". Is that the
morning of the resurrection/judgement day? "I want to meet you barefoot
barely breathing". Again, is this a reference to the morning of the
resurrection? And also, "I'm still recalling things you said to make me
feel Alright I carried them with me today now" - pre-existence?
This whole song is very moving and seems to have strong spiritual
significance. I love this song and wanted to let you know.
So...uh...am I crazy? Or am I reading this correctly?
Phoenix

Dear Phoenix,
I think you've got it.
Thank you Sophie |

| Q |
Hi Sophie,
I feel a little odd writing this, knowing it might or might not even reach you. But I just wanted to write and tell you how much I love As I Lay Me Down. It will always be one of my all-time favorite songs.
You released it at a very low time in my life but I have found (and continue to find) so much comfort in that song. Before your song was released, my father had had a stroke and passed away and I was completely destroyed - partly because of his death and partly because his stroke coincided with my return home after being away at college for 2 years. (I felt and still feel very responsible.)
I heard your song for the very first time when my clock radio alarm came on at 6:30am. It was yet another dreary day and I had planned to skip class again. (After my father's death, I had no desire to do anything, much less complete my degree.) Something about that song caught my attention and sleep just flew out the window. I woke up immediately and listened to it and, for the first time in a long time, it gave me a little peace after all that had happened with my father. Instead of focusing on the fact that my father wasn't there with me anymore, your song made me think of all the times we had shared and all the memories we had made. Everytime I hear this song, good times with my father flood back to my mind and I feel like I have him near me again.
It is a very sensitive and poignant song. I like the soothing rhythm and the love that so clearly comes through the song. It reminds me of my time with my father and of my hometown; especially appropriate is the background vocals of "pulang kampung". (Or at least that's what I think it says. Pulang kampung is a Malay phrase meaning "going home".) If I'm wrong, I apologize for assuming it. That's just what it sounds like to me. :)
Anyway, I just wanted to write you to say how much I enjoy As I Lay Me Down and how meaningful and special it is to me. Especially, thank you very much for writing it and sharing it with the world.
Your fan in Lubbock, TX
Yung
